Roger was born on the Isle of Wight in 1949, although he spent his formative years in Norfolk.

Educated at the Duke of York’s Royal Military School in Dover, he left there in 1966 to join the army. After ten years in H.M.Forces, and travelling as far away as Hong Kong, he left the army and returned to Norwich, where he was drawn to the scenery of North Norfolk, which can be seen in some of his paintings.

In 1986 he moved to Cornwall with his family and then again in 2004 to Penwith, the area beyond Penzance towards Lands End. The area is famous for its artistic community and it rekindled his interest in painting, both traditional and abstract.

He moved to Devon in 2009 and enjoyed painting the local scenes, especially the magic of Dartmoor and Exmoor and the busy, though peaceful, river estuaries of the south coast.

He returned to Cornwall in 2011.
